Our History

Leonie Ellis Placements (LEP) started in 2007 and our founder, Leonie Ellis, initially focused on international markets. She gained a lot of exposure and experience in the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Dubai, and the United Kingdom.

Two years later, she joined the Federation of African Professional Staffing Organisations (APSO) and refocused her attention on the South African market. She started hosting regular networking sessions and grew LEP’s reputation as a recruitment company that is well-informed and an invaluable resource in the markets we operate.

Highlights of Leonie’s career at LEP and achievements

In October 2010, Leonie worked with international legal management consultants to create a legal symposium for 40 heads of legal, aimed at helping them understand how they could increase their teams’ profile within their respective organisations.

She was also invited to join the Board of Corporate Lawyers Association of South Africa, and two years later was invited to be on the panel of judges for the Africa Legal Week Awards.

2014 was a very busy year as she attended the Global Leaders in Law, a mini-MBA for General Counsel at Somerville College in Oxford, UK, while also piloting the Legal Bootcamp at Stellenbosch University, judging the 2014 Legal Week Awards, and co-hosting networking events with Global Leaders for Law in General Counsel in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

In 2015, Leonie facilitated discussions at the inaugural conference of New Ways for Women to Lead in Law that was held in Cape Town. She also hosted Stellenbosch University’s second Legal Bootcamp and joined the judging panel for the 2015 Africa Legal Week Awards.

The Transition

In 2016, Nthabiseng Ndlovu joined LEP and when Leonie decided to pursue other interests in 2017 and relocated to London, Nthabiseng became the managing director of the entity.
